Please note that the status and effects of the Federal Government shutdown are changing day-to-day. We will do our best to update this page with new information as it becomes available, but please be aware some information may be outdated. 

2025 Federal Government Shutdown

As of October 1, 2025, the federal government has not passed spending legislation to keep the government open. This means portions of the federal government have stopped operating, but essential workers stay on the job.  

This may impact benefits and services that you use to support yourself and your family. We know this can create a lot of uncertainty, especially if you rely on federal benefits or programs.   Benefits That May Be Impacted 

SNAP/Basic Food:  

  • If the shutdown continues, November benefits will be delayed. 
  • You will be able to spend October benefits in November without interruptions. 
  • Your EBT card will still work at grocery stores, supermarkets, convenience stores, farmers markets, and other retailers that accept EBT. 
  • Các SNAP application remains open, and local DSHS offices are still operating. 

WIC:  

  • WIC will provide food benefits through mid to late November. 
  • You can keep using your current WIC benefits and services as usual. 
  • WIC offices may be temporarily closed— we recommend using các WIC Clinic Locator to check your local office’s status before visiting. 

🚩ALTERNATIVE FOOD RESOURCES🚩  

CDC Learn the Signs Act Early: As of 10/22/2025 this office has been closed during the shutdown, which may impact access to free developmental milestone resources. 

Financial Resources for federal workers: If you are a federal worker impacted by the partial federal government shutdown, you may be eligible for unemployment insurance benefits, depending on your situation.

✅ Programs Not Currently Impacted 

Medicaid/Apple Health: There are no current disruptions for Apple Health enrollees.  

Head Start: This program currently continues to operate as it awaits guidance from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. 

Home Visiting Programs: No service impacts at this time. 

Social Security: Payments will continue without changes. Local offices remain open but with reduced services. 

School Meals: No impact to school meals
